“Health” Year Resolutions: Take Off A Few Pounds

It’s that time of year again when we resolve to improve ourselves and our health for the New Year.

One of the biggest challenges we have in transportation is health-related: keeping the extra pounds off.

That applies to office staff as well as drivers. Too much weight can lead to major diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, sleep apnea, and joint injuries. Nobody wants anything to do with these types of problems but we’re all susceptible.

Doctors tell us that the two biggest preventable factors are lack of exercise and bad diet or poor eating habits. Health

So what can be done?

Experts say that even small improvements in diet and activity level can result in benefits such as lower cholesterol and blood pressure, increased energy and better quality of sleep.

So encourage “baby steps” like:

  1. Offering fruit and other healthy alternatives at your terminal.
  2. Posting and distributing health related information that can lead to weight loss.
  3. Encouraging everyone to get some form of exercise. Even moderate walking helps.
  4. Also encourage staff to set health-related goals for improvement.

Getting everyone in your terminal thinking about improving their lifestyle is a worthy goal for 2017!
